We need funds to do our vital work. Can you help us to pay the salary of a library administrator? Can you contribute towards the costs of shipping books to our libraries, or providing computers for our users?
Do you have relevant and up-to-date books or other educational resources you could donate to the libraries?
Topics we look for include: medicine; nursing; midwifery; public health; lab, pharmacy and X-ray work; hospital and general management.
We also accept fiction, English language, maths and science textbooks (up to A level).

Most books are directly donated to AHL. Others are bought by AHL for the libraries. Costs depend on the book title, and can range between around £6 to even (rarely) up to £90 per book.
Photocopying and printing costs, paper, card, sellotape, glue, mobile phone credit for the librarian etc.
It costs around £250 per month on average to pay a member of AHL staff in Sierra Leone.

Hiring a 4x4 to take books from Freetown to the libraries costs at least £47 per day, plus fuel.
A book shelf costs around £50. We also spend money on tables, chairs, desks, cupboards, standing fans, etc.
We recently completed the construction of a Resource Centre at Makeni Government Hospital to replace the previous tiny library space. We hope to raise sufficient funds to do the same at Bo Government Hospital.
