Some books are directly donated to AHL. Others are bought by AHL for the libraries. Costs depend on the book title, and can range between around £6 to even (rarely) up to £90 per book.
Photocopying and printing costs, paper, card, sellotape, glue, mobile phone credit for the librarian etc.
Around £200 pays a librarian's salary in Sierra Leone for one month.
It costs around £20 to ship a box of books from the UK to Sierra Leone.
Hiring a 4x4 to take books from Freetown to the libraries costs around £47 per day, plus fuel.
A locally-made book shelf costs around £67. We have also spent money on tables, chairs, desks, cupboards, standing fans, etc.
We are looking to raise an additional £24,000 to enable us to start building at Makeni and Bo Government Hospitals.
