A shared inter-hospital library service was opened at Princess Christian Maternity Hospital and Ola During Children's Hospital in Freetown in February 2020.
This library service provides healthcare information tailored to maternity and paediatric care, for staff in both tertiary referral hospitals and students from COMAHS (College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, University of Sierra Leone).
AHL worked with the Hospital Management, the UK Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and COMAHS Library Services to apply to the BMA Information Fund for core books. These were added to through AHL partnerships with Book Aid International and Oxford Book Transplant Scheme, and some individual donations.
AHL staff assisted with the set up of the library, by helping with item delivery, processing books for the shelves, and by sharing of AHL borrowing and data collection systems, and monitoring and evaluation processes.
AHL staff keep in regular contact with the Librarian.
Your support is vital to establishing, supporting, and developing our current libraries, as well as opening opportunities to more locations.
Do you enjoy reading? Have you benefited from access to good-quality information and study spaces?
Are you passionate about improving healthcare systems? Would you be interested in twinning a library? Could you donate your time or resources to our mission to provide essential access to health information?
We want to hear from you!
